The Chemical Research Society of India (CRSI), the largest chemical society in India was established by the Bharat Ratna Prof C.N.R. Rao in 1999. The major objectives of the CRSI are to recognize, promote and foster talent in Chemistry and Chemical Sciences and to improve the quality of Chemical Education at all levels.
Professor J. J. Vittal from the Department of Chemistry at NUS has been honoured with the CRSI Medal 2020 at a ceremony during the 26th Annual Meeting of CRSI and the UK’s Royal Society of Chemistry at VIT University, Vellore, India on Feb. 6-9, 2020. The prestigious CRSI medal is conferred on chemists of Indian origin working outside India and who have contributed extensively to the promotion of chemical research.
The award recognises the pioneering work of Professor J. J. Vittal’s research group at NUS in developing soft and dynamic crystals of coordination polymers and metal-organic framework (MOF) materials. Professor Vittal is particularly interested in exploring the structure-function-property relationship in these new materials. His work has been well-recognized by his peers in crystal engineering community for his leadership, pioneering work and contributions to the solid state reactivity and structural transformations in MOFs.
