Career Prospects

Graduates in chemistry may look forward to a wide range of job prospects upon graduation. They can work as an analytical chemist, quality assurance chemist, forensic scientist, crime scene specialist, research and development (R&D) scientist, compliance specialist, patent scientist, health and safety officer, educator, and even as a food and flavour scientist, medical technologist and financial manager.

Healthcare and Consumer Goods Industry

Willy Chin obtained his B.Sc. in Applied Chemistry in 2011 from NUS, and then his Ph.D. in 2015 from NUS Graduate School for Integrative Sciences & Engineering. Willy is now a Global Product Stewardship senior regulatory affairs manager in P&G. He meets regularly with R&D, marketing, and legal teams to help them understand more about the chemistry and technology of the products, as well as to ascertain that the packaging artworks and marketing materials are within compliance.

Fragrance Industry

Joyce Lian graduated in 2019 with a B.Sc. in Chemistry from NUS, and is now the founder and creative director of Scent Journer. Scent Journer is a perfumery company that believes in empowering everyone to feel their best. Joyce believes in creating mindfully formulated perfumes, and focuses heavily on safety in her fragrances. No toxic methanol is used to in the synthesis and production of Scent Journer’s products.

Food and Beverage Industry

In 2016, Andrew obtained his B.Sc. In Chemistry with a minor in Management. He now works at Aroma Coffee where he co-founded the company. With the analytical and lab skills that he cultivated during his undergraduate years, he hopes to crack the essence of coffee and tea flavours and to perform countless experiments to perfect his products.
