The Kiang Ai Kim Scholarship Fund

The Kiang Ai Kim Scholarship Fund was set up in 2000, on the 85th birthday of Emeritus Professor Kiang, to honour his contributions to the Department as well as to the progress of Chemistry in Singapore and the region. Read more about Prof Kiang and how the fund was established here.

The main objective of this Fund is to award scholarships to encourage outstanding students to read chemistry. There are thus two level of scholarships set up under the Fund for postgraduates and undergraduates respectively:

1. The Kiang Ai Kim Graduate Scholarship

In line with Professor Kiang’s affection in Chemistry, the Kiang Ai Kim Graduate Scholarship is awarded to encourage qualified students to pursue full-time graduate studies in NUS Chemistry. Applicants must be NUS chemistry Honours degree holders with academic excellence, regardless of nationality. He/she must first fulfil the admission requirement for a higher degree by research in the Department. Click here for the application details and the T&Cs of the Scholarship. The application deadline for Aug intake is 15 November previous year.

2. The Kiang Ai Kim Chemistry Merit Scholarship

The Kiang Ai Kim Merit Scholarship is for undergraduate freshman and Singapore citizen at the Faculty of Science majoring in Chemistry. The selection is based on merit, with the same terms and conditions as other Faculty of Science’s merit scholarships. At least one scholarship will be awarded in full term, which supports the student with tuition fee and a yearly allowance of S$6000.

Thus far, the Kiang Ai Kim Scholarship Fund has fulfilled part of its objectives of encouraging outstanding students to pursue PhD research in Chemistry. We are also glad that many of the Kiang Ai Kim Graduate Scholars have had the opportunity to interact with and be personally inspired by E/P Kiang himself over the period 2003-2009 before his demise. Read here on what some of the recipients said.
