Self-funded PhD programme
Graduate Tutor
- Only for SC/SPR
- TA with reduced workload & part-time PhD
- Candidates can apply for NUS Research Scholarship first, the suitable applicants will be nominated for Graduate Tutor Program
- Salary: 5000 S$ +CPF 850 S$/month for Citizen, 5000S$/month for SPR
- Workload for Graduate Tutor
- 2 tutorial/lab sessions (1 hour per session) per week (or equivalent load) in year 1
- 6 tutorial/lab sessions per week (or equivalent load) in years 2–4
Application information
Admission requirements:
- A Bachelor’s (Honours) degree or a 4-year Bachelor’s degree
- Candidates applying for Research Scholarships must have obtained a bachelor’s degree with at least a 2nd Class Upper Honours, or its equivalent.
- For all PhD programmes, a candidate whose medium of undergraduate instruction is not English is required to submit TOEFL (with the minimum score 85 for the internet-based test) or IELTS (with the minimum score 6.0) scores.
- For all PhD programmes, candidates are required to submit GRE (minimum score of 320 [Verbal+ Quantitative] and 3.5 [Analytical Writing]).
- Waiver of GRE: GRE waiver may be granted to applicants who demonstrate strong track record of academic excellence on a case-by-case basis. For detailed GRE waiver
conditions, please check with respective department PhD administrator.

Awards:
Dean Graduate Fellowship (DGF)
- Selected from those with RSB, SINGA, IRP in admission per AY (top 20%)
- There is no need for students to apply for DGF. Selection is done by FOS.
- GAP hours remain unchanged – total 416 hours (for IS)
- Stipends in years 1-4, increase by 600 S$ per month
- SC: S$3,400 +CPF 578; SPR: S$3,000; IS: S$2,800
FoS PhD Conference Award (FPCA)
- Support PhD students at FoS to attend conferences to present their research
- Each PhD can only be awarded once during his/her PhD candidature
- To be decided by FoS Graduate EXCO
- Up to S$3,500 per award by claim for attending a conference
- Usually for year-3 and year-4 PhD students
Two rounds call of application per AY
- One is by 15 August
- Another is by 15 January
Best Poster Awards
- Selection is done during the Graduate e-Poster Symposium for year-3 students
- 10% of total students will get a travel award of S$1000
