The Ang Kok Peng Memorial Fund was established to honour the memory of Dr Ang Kok Peng, a long-serving member of NUS until his retirement in 1988. This Fund aims to support educational programmes and activities for the development of faculty, staff and students, in line with Dr Ang’s work in chemistry education and research. Three categories of grants are established with the Ang Kok Peng Memorial Fund:
1. Ang Kok Peng Memorial Undergraduate Overseas Experience Award
The Ang Kok Peng Memorial Undergraduate Overseas Experience Award supports eligible Chemistry undergraduates on a study abroad programme, e.g. industry/research attachment, SEP, or pursuing a joint minor with a partner university overseas. The candidates must be Chemistry majors who have achieved good academic record (CAP >=4.0), and/or done some good service work for the community. The award offers a one-time grant of $4,000 to defray their travel expenses. Click here for the application form with more details. Application is accepted by 31 Aug of each calendar year.
2. Ang Kok Peng Memorial Undergraduate Teaching Assistant Award
The Ang Kok Peng Memorial Undergraduate Teaching Award supports eligible level 3 or 4 Chemistry undergraduates who have good academic record and are passionate in teaching and competent to assisting faculty member in the Department as teaching assistants. Up to ten awards of S$1,000 each will be given out in each academic year.
3. Ang Kok Peng Memorial Undergraduate Chemistry Demonstration Award
The award is open to all undergraduate students majoring in Chemistry. Students who are passionate in developing demonstrations (hands-on, simulations, etc.) to illustrate scientific and or chemistry concepts in interesting and fun ways are encouraged to work out their projects via ChemNUS Demo Interest Group. The criteria of Award is a demonstrable item, i.e. full video clips or hands-on workshop package (with intro, experimental, risks, etc.) that is adopted by the Department teaching and/or outreach committees for teaching or outreach purposes. Up to 10 awards of S$500 each per academic year will be awarded for the selected projects.
4. Ang Kok Peng Memorial Teacher Award
The award is open to Chemistry teachers (Singapore Citizen/Singapore Permanent Resident) currently teaching in schools/Poly/JCs who wish to pursue a MSc degree (by coursework) at the Department of Chemistry, NUS. Up to two awards of S$10,000 each will be awarded to the selected candidates who have accepted the offer letter and paid the S$5000 acceptance fee. This award is to offset the programme fee and can be awarded in conjunction with any other award/prize/rebate. 5. Ang Kok Peng Memorial Lectureship
The Ang Kok Peng Memorial Lectureship enables the Department to invite internationally eminent scholars to Singapore to make high level contributions to chemical educations in Singapore. The list of past Ang Kok Peng Memorial Lectureship is as follows:
