The 2024 Young Scientist Award

Congratulations to Associate Professor Lu Jiong who is one of 2024 Young Scientist Award recipients. He and his team developed advanced catalysts that not only achieved significantly higher yields and greater efficiency, but also saw a remarkable 10-fold reduction in environmental impact and production cost compared to conventional options. 

The winner in the Physical Sciences category in the Falling Walls Global Call 2024

Congratulations to Professor Liu Xiaogang as a winner in the Physical Sciences category in the Falling Walls Global Call 2024.24 Falling Walls Global Call. He revolutionized X-ray imaging technology by developing novel optical nanomaterials.

The SNAS Fellowship 2024

Congratulations to Professor Loh Kian Ping Six researchers from NUS who has been elected as Singapore National Academy of Science (SNAS) fellow for his pioneering 2D materials research in Singapore, his academic leadership and his grooming of many young talents for Singapore.

The 2024 Mitsui Chemicals Catalysis Science Award

Congratulations to Associate Professor Koh Ming Joo for winning the 2024 Mitsui Chemicals Catalysis Science Award for Creative Work. The award is an acknowledgement of his work in  developing base metal catalysis and radical chemistry for sustainable organic synthesis.  

The Royal Society of Chemistry’s Centenary Prize 2024

Congratulations to Professor LIU Xiaogang. He has been honored with the Royal Society of Chemistry’s Centenary Prize for his outstanding contributions to research and innovation. Prof Liu won the prize for outstanding contributions to the understanding and optical manipulation of photon conversion in nanocrystals and their applications in X-ray and light-field imaging, and for excellence in communication. 

SNIC-AsCA2019 Singapore Award (Distinguished Woman Chemist Award 2024)

Congratulations to Associate Professor Chi Chunyan for winning the SNIC-AsCA2019 Singapore Award (Distinguished Woman Chemist Award 2024) for the synthesis of challenging p-conjugated structures, including fully conjugated carbon nanobelts, zigzag-edged nanographenes, acenes, heterocyclic quinodimethanes, and p-extended non-alternant non-benzenoid hydrocarbons, as well as for studying their properties and applications as materials.

American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) College of Fellows

Congratulations to Professor Liu Xiaogang for being elected to the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) College of Fellows.  This honor  is among the highest professional distinctions accorded to medical and biological engineers, comprised of the top two percent of engineers in these fields.

Novartis Early Career Award in Chemistry 2023

Congratulations to Associate Professor Koh Ming Joo, the 2023 recipient of the Novartis Early Career Award in Chemistry. This is the first time, the award is given to a Singapore-based researcher for making a significant contribution to chemistry. Since 1998, the Novartis Early Career Award in Chemistry is given annually to outstanding scientists within 10 years of having established an independent academic research career in chemistry.

Novel catalyst for green production of fine chemicals and pharmaceuticals

A team of NUS researchers led by Associate Professor Lu Jiong from the Department of Chemistry under the NUS Faculty of Science, together with their international collaborators, have developed a new class of catalysts – known as heterogeneous geminal atom catalysts (GACs) – that promotes greener and more sustainable manufacturing processes for fine chemicals and pharmaceuticals.
