Notice the danger signs | On all electrical equipment you use, watch for signs of wear on the cable and insulation problems where it connects to the plug or equipment. Replace or rectify as necessary.
Plugs and Fuses | All 3-pin plugs used in Singapore must have the Safety Mark logo. |
||||||
|
The following plugs are allowed in the laboratories: 2.5 AMP 2 round-pin mains plug, the 13 AMP 3 pin fused mains plug and the 15 AMP 3 round-pin mains plug (Courtesy of Enterprise Singapore). If you put a mains plug on a piece of equipment, follow the wiring colour code:
Use the correct fuse for the equipment.
If universal travel adapters (below) are in use for office equipment, such as laptops, they must be removed after use. Do not leave the equipment unattended if it is plugged into the electrical socket via the travel adapter. There have been several instances of fires resulting from the use of these adapters. |

Water and Electricity | Wet electrical equipment is very dangerous. Disconnect from the mains before touching it. Beware of wet heating mantles.
Safety Testing | All portable electrical equipment (i.e. equipment that can be unplugged) must be tested regularly. New, second-hand and old equipment must be tested before being brought into use. Equipment that carries a “Failed” sticker must never be used. |
